August Smallwood Livery Centre is pleased to announce that Grand Prix Dressage rider/trainer, Debbie Jones is now based at the yard. We will soon add more details to the website, BHS Registered Debbie is a list 2a BD Judge and is available for instruction both on and off the yard. Part of the reasons for bringing her horses to Smallwood is the continued investment we have done to our arenas. with our 60 x 20 arena being both proven frost resistant and now proven drought resistant as well! Riding consistently well through the recent prolonged spell of hot, dry weather. This will allow Debbie to ride and teach, uninterrupted by poor quality surfaces letting her down in inclement weather.
Debbie can be reached on

February 2010 Due to the unprecidented bad weather which left many riding arenas frozen and unusable, including ours, we have taken the plunge and further invested in a Synthetic topping for one of our arenas giving true "All Weather" usability. Small amount of 2010 crop haylage left, offers available call for details. September 2009 All our 2009 haylage is now complete and ready for sale, please book early to avoid disappointment we still have bales unallocated but not many. March 09 Our cross country schooling is now open but very subject to the weather at the moment, we are only booking a few days in advance for the time being. To book either email or phone the landline on 01477 500605 (not my mobile number, I can't book you in from outside). In consideration with the current economic climate, unlike our competitors, our prices are held as last year, £15 per horse or £12.50 for groups of 5 or more. December After 7 incredible years, Smallwood will not be hosting the Pony Club National Novice Championships in 2009. A victim of our joint success with Cheshire Hunt North Pony Club, the competition with around 600 entries has outgrown Smallwood and time has come for the NNC to go to a new venue. It has given Sarah and myself tremendous satisfaction to work with Cheshire Hunt North in hosting the Championships from the infant days back in 2002 and be responsible for building it up to what it is today! We are especially proud of all the thankyou notes that we receive from competitors after each event and 2008 was no exception. We would like to thank Cheshire Hunt North and all the competitors from all over the country, over the years for choosing Smallwood and wish the competition the very best success for the future. November September 2008 The 21st was our last competition of the year, a Hunter Trials run by Macclesfield & District Riding Club and what fantastic weather for the occasion with excellent feedback. Thank you to all organisers who have used Smallwood for their competitions and thank you to all competitors who come and take part in these competitions and hopefully return home with at least a big smile. We look forward to 2009 and welcome you all to return. August Bank Holiday saw us host our 7th Pony Club National Novice Championships, fortunately due to the ideal summer we've had in terms of ground conditions, some last minute heavy rain did nothing to spoil this fantastic event. As ever Cheshire Hunt North Pony Club did an excellent job of organising and executing such a large competition with some 550+ competitors travelling the length and breadth of the country to attend over the two days, competing in Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing disciplines. Congratulations to all that qualified, and took part, results can be found below. July 08 All our first cut haylage was completed in June, in all cases taking advantage of the limited good weather we enjoyed. Orders now being taken for our excellent, first quality Ryegrass or Meadow Mix varieties. May 08 The Macclesfield Riding Club Hunter Trials has now been re-arranged for Sunday 21st September, we look forward to seeing you then. April 08 We have just bought a new set of Polyjump™ showjumps for the yard to replace the tired old jumps that we had. The arenas have never been used so much! March 08 Our cross country schooling is now open but because of the time of year is subject to the weather and ground conditions, booking is essential, please note due to the continuing rise of fuel prices which affects our maintenance costs, our fee has risen this year to £15 per horse or £12.50 for 5 or more. Our grass jumping arena will be available as soon as ground conditions will allow, hopefully around mid-April. December 2007 We still have a small amount of haylage left, bale size 1300mm x 700mm x 800mm, high dry matter, high fibre, low energy mix. Seasonal offer take delivery in January of a 25 bale load, with free local delivery for £20 per bale. October 2007 For over 8 years our clients have endured stopping to open our entrance gates, driving through, stopping again to close them. Well no more, we have just installed new gates with automatic openers, just part of our continued investment for improving our yard.
September 2007 Following the dreadful wet summer, the weather took up, and gave us some of the best ground conditions we have experienced here at Smallwood, just as well as there were over 600 competitors that attended the Pony Club National Novice Championships, held over the Bank Holiday weekend undoubtedly our biggest competition to date! With individual and team awards at stake competition was fierce and the standards excellent, congratulations to all that qualified, travelled the length and breadth of the country to get here to compete in Dressage, Showjumping and One Day Event disciplines. We will look forward to 23rd and 24th August 2008 for the 7th Pony Club Novice Championships to be held at Smallwood. Not forgetting our other competitions, we had a super little beginners 1-DE held in early September, organised again by the excellent committee of Cheshire Hunt North Pony Club, followed a week later by the Delamere Forest Riding Club annual 1-DE. Both of which have rebooked for next year. July 2007 With the great weather early in June our Haylage production swung into action, any haylage made since that dry period will have been rained on or will be going downhill now in quality terms if it has not yet been cut and when will this dreadful weather end! My guess also is that very little hay has been made up to now and again, the quality will be deteriorating and with no sign of a change in the weather until at least the middle of the month this year's hay will be poor in quality. Book up early to ensure a supply in our Ryegrass haylage if premium quality is on your horse's menu this winter. May 2007 With the sun still shining our 1st event of the year took place on Saturday 5th, on what can be described as firm ground! The continued outstanding spring weather is great to work in and for a change, gave us no worries about a wet mess or towing lorries but did give rise for concern about the going. We applied an extra 2-3 inches of our all weather aggregate on all of the jump landings to cushion the horses and excellent grass cover proving some relief to the firm ground. The event passed off brilliantly, I suppose only to be expected with the superb organisation once again of the Cheshire Hunt North Pony Club committee and helpers, results can be found here for those of you who are interested. RESULTS Our next event is organised by Burton Forest Pony Club on Bank Holiday Monday 28th May see the events diary for details and do not forget The Smallwood Horse Show here on Saturday 9th June, schedules will be available here online imminently! April 2007 With the fabulous spring weather our Cross Country course is now open for hire PRICE REMAINS AT £14 per horse or £12 per horse for 5 or more on a group booking. We have had delivery of some new logs and will be building again before our first competition on May 5th. Booking is essential as usual and we are open most nights up to 7pm last horse to go on the course. Our showjumps on our 1 acre grass arena will be available to hire from 6th May at £15 per hour or £22 combined with cross country. February 2007 Our events calendar has taken shape over the last few days, a lot of dates have now been posted here. During the severe winds earlier in the month we lost the roof of quite an old shed, we are currently receiving quotes to demolish and rebuild with a new portal frame shed, 75' by 50'. This will be built to industry spec and I would be interested in talking to anybody who might be interested in renting some or all the space within especially for some equestrian based business or use. Please contact Ian on 01477 500605 or 07889 041269. December 06 Just confirmed, we will be hosting the Smallwood Horse show on Saturday June 9th 2007, more details to follow in the new year. Work on the Arenas was completed last month and they are both performing superbly, they have stabilised and the horses are now riding completely on top of the surface with hardly a hoof print, even when jumping! This quality of surface and how it is performing matches the very best and you can enjoy it here free of charge whilst keeping your horse on Livery with us. October 06 26th Oct. Work has started on the arenas. The order has been placed with Equestrian Direct for their "TurfFloat" and "Hair" fibres to mix with one of the best premium grade silica sand to be sourced in the UK. After talking to several suppliers and seeing surfaces in operation coupled with the fact that this surface was used at the Athens Games in 2004 gave us the confidence to place the order with Equestrian Direct. We will soon be starting work resurfacing the original arena as well as refurbishing the Dressage arena, work will be expected to be completed early November. September 06 Introduction of Assisted DIY Livery service to offer a broader spectrum of services available, please contact us for details. August 06 Also research and preparatory work now being undertaken to resurface our original all weather arena, we are looking at several suppliers of surface enhancers now available to mix with sand to create a stable consistent surface for all disciplines in all weathers.
